Jay has been living with us full time for over a year now. Since the County wasn’t supposed to know he was living there we kept it pretty low key and didn’t move all his stuff. The adoption was finalized back in April and we are still paying two mortgages. Ugh.
We have been incredibly slack in getting his place cleaned out. There are a ton of excuses of course, it’s hard to find room for everything, we don’t have a lot of time, it’s too hot. What it really comes down to is a lack of focus and motivation.
We got a real shot in the pants recently to get moving and get his house rented. We accomplished more last weekend than the previous eight combined. Another weekend like that and we can call the cleaning crew. Still no idea where all the stuff is going to go but his place is almost empty.
And the stuff…oh my. Jay has more than 12 external frame backpacks. No one uses this kind of pack anymore, but he has a collection. Not to mention his 10 or 15 other packs. He has at least six sleeping bags and five or more tents. Anyone that want’s to camp with us need only bring underwear and a toothbrush. Jay can supply the rest.
This is the thing about a curator, he keeps everything! He has this toy doll his mom kept from his childhood. Remember the Chucky movie? It’s a bit like that and completely creeps me out. Weird curly orange hair, big plastic head, and a pull string in it’s neck to make him speak. I refuse to touch it. Jay keeps telling me I’m going to wake up with it in the bed. Ick!
