When we left home it was 106 degrees, on the way up the mountain to Breckenridge is was 28 and snowing. I saw snow plows for the first time ever. We knew it was going to be cold but, really? Snowing? I'd expected to be taking lots of pictures of the Colorado mountains in full Autumn colors. Yeah, not so much.

Actually, it was a ton of fun. We aren't used to snow so it's always a novelty for us. To spend a week in all that snow was strange and fun and exciting all at the same time. It snowed a little everyday but that didn't keep us in.

It was wonderful to come back after hiking in the snow to hot showers and a comfortable bed. The room was so well insulated we kept the fire place off and had to open windows. Jay's very dear friends gracioulsy gave us a week at the Grand Timber Lodge. It was wonderful and a perfect start to our honeymoon.



We stayed a week in Breckenridge and the last day we finally had blue skies and warmer weather. The nicer weather allowed us to do a longer hike up to some alpine lakes that were gorgeous. That will have to be in Part II.
